Now that the warmongers are out of America’s government, and the right wing cry from the wilderness is not reverberating, WHAT IF the United Nations proposed a “Land Proclamation Act” for the Middle East that was retroactive to January 1st, 1948? That concept should not be too difficult to “digest” if an organization’s Charter has the following for its preamble:
CHARTER OF THE UNITED NATIONS
PREAMBLE
WE THE PEOPLES OF THE UNITED NATIONS DETERMINED
- to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, which twice in our lifetime has brought untold sorrow to mankind, and
- to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women and of nations large and small, and
- to establish conditions under which justice and respect for the obligations arising from treaties and other sources of international law can be maintained, and
- to promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom,
AND FOR THESE ENDS
- to practice tolerance and live together in peace with one another as good neighbours, and
- to unite our strength to maintain international peace and security, and
- to ensure, by the acceptance of principles and the institution of methods, that armed force shall not be used, save in the common interest, and
- to employ international machinery for the promotion of the economic and social advancement of all peoples,
HAVE RESOLVED TO COMBINE OUR EFFORTS TO ACCOMPLISH THESE AIMS
Accordingly, our respective Governments, through representatives assembled in the city of San Francisco, who have exhibited their full powers found to be in good and due form, have agreed to the present Charter of the United Nations and do hereby establish an international organization to be known as the United Nations.
What a MAGNANIMOUS declaration!!!! Hats don’t come any whiter. But what is the reality of that declaration? Was the U.N.’s preamble a living preamble? How close does U.N. performance approach U.N. rhetoric? Does the performance and rhetoric of the United Nations remind one of the performance and rhetoric of America’s neocons?
Where was the preamble to the United Nations Charter in 1947? How did the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 181 “square” with the United Nations’ preamble to its charter?[http://www.yale.edu/lawweb/avalon/un/res181.htm]
Should the United Nations repent? Will the Palestinians, whose land was stolen in 1948, using the resources of the United Nations – ever receive justice in the world of the United Nations’ Charter? Should the United Nations change the color of its HAT? Where does the United Nations land performance rank in the list of (1) THE GOOD, (2) THE BAD and (3) THE UGLY?
It appeared that the United Nations never declared war on the little country of Palestine. It helped setup the apparatus that was used to force the Palestinians to leave their homeland.
