Rebranding the Neocons

By joejolly

Organizations like IBM and Microsoft would not think of rebranding

However, not all organizations rule out rebranding. It appears that “Blackwater Worldwide” has changed its name. And the far-right-wing of the Republican party, new-conservatives(neocons), are now being called “conservative Republicans’”.

Blackwater’s rebranding came with a new name – the neocons rebranding came with an old name – “conservative Republican”.

There were conservative Republicans prior to the advent of the neocons in 1980. But 1980 was the starting year for a new brand of Republican. The transition from the old conservatives to the “new conservatives” was a colossal transition.

The new conservatives had BIG ideas on managing America’s economy and BIG ideas on managing America’s war machine. Their management ideas contrasted sharply with the management ideas of both Republicans and Democrats. And their management results differed from the management results of both the Republicans and the Democrats.

The neocons made a “mess” of America.

They made a “mess” of America’s economy and they made a mess of America’s war machine.

Blackwater took a new name. The neocons reclaimed an old name.

When Mr. John McCain “dropped” the name of Barry Goldwater – Barry Goldwater’s granddaughter commented via the below post in the HuffingtonPost:

John McCain is prone to tout himself as a “Goldwater Republican,” the inheritor of a party and ideology that his Senate predecessor from Arizona, Barry Goldwater, helped shape decades ago.

But Goldwater’s own family members say that, if the family patriarch were alive today, he would be sour on McCain and shudder at the kind of conservatism that the current GOP nominee is proposing.

I don’t know if he would recognize the Republican Party today,” Alison Goldwater Ross, a registered Democrat and granddaughter of the 1964 GOP presidential candidate, told The Huffington Post. “I’m sure if we were to raise his ashes from the Colorado River… he would be going, ‘What? This is not my vision. This is not my party.’”

Organizations do change their names – and for a multitude of reasons. But sometimes, looming in an organization’s history – is a performance that says – RUN – attempt to escape from train-wreck performances.

The neocons have displayed train-wreck performances practically every-time they performed. Perhaps it’s time for the neocons to return to a name that still contains RESPECTABILITY. Perhaps it’s time for the neocons to call themselves – conservative Republicans.
