The History of the CIA is likely to be a great challenge for historians
If it was left up to the CIA it would not have revealed its drug smuggling of the 80’s. For most Americans drug smuggling is illegal and punishable by fines and jail time. But the CIA is an arm of government with a great deal of power. It is not subject to the same rules as mere Americans. Prior to the neocons however, America’s leaders were guided by legal, ethical and common-sense values that made certain behaviors taboo and thus were to be avoided.
If abused, the CIA could be a formidable weapon in the hands of a political party. All manner of dirty, illegal and abnormal activity could go on and then STAMPED top secret. Although that political party could easily break the law, that political party would naturally expect others to obey the law. It is against the law to reveal America’s secrets.
If an organization continues its law-breaking for a period of time, such an organization might come to believe it was above the law – as a recent case exposed.
News accounts tells of a recent CIA plan that was conceived but supposedly not activated under the Bush administration – was about to be activated under the new Obama administration. Apparently, NO PRIOR APPROVAL of the deadly plan was requested from the Obama administration. The CIA was about to put a plan into action that could possibly kill other country’s citizens without approval of America’s new leadership. What kind of stupidity is that?
But if you do visit the above CIA plan link to the guardian.co.uk webpage, you may see a possible reason why America’s Ex-Vice President Dick Cheney has been so vocal about “hands off” the CIA.
The Obama administration would be responsible for a deadly plan it did not order nor had knowledge of. The CIA, acting like an independent entity, was about to unleash a killing plan – in the name of America but with no authorization from America’s leadership. The one who paid CIA salaries could just get used to it. It is unlikely to find that brand of stupidly making sense – even in a banana republic.
The neocons are in a class by themselves. Hopefully, no more instances of that class exists. One instance is more than enough.
What has already been revealed of the neocon’s CIA relationship, is enough to question the democracy of this Democracy. Accountability, at some level, is a keyword in a democracy. While, by design, the CIA is not directly accountable to the American people – the CIA is accountable to the American government. But the CIA is one more train-wreck created by the “management style” of the neocons.
Historians might need the help of archeologists to dig for facts about the neocons’ relationship to the CIA.
