How did Florida pull this one off? Major press units did not give enough information to know how Florida did it. However, for what its worth Fox News did publish something.
Was the defense of the killer Hispanic based on “STAND YOUR GROUND”? If so, then one can understand why the reason has remained low-key in the press. It is a stupid reason and could only work in the racist South in a trial that pits white or near white against black. But listen to this from a news source:
Blacks benefit from Florida ‘Stand Your Ground’ law at a disproportionate rate
African Americans benefit from Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” self-defense law at a rate far out of proportion to their presence in the state’s population, despite an assertion by Attorney General Eric Holder that repealing “Stand Your Ground” would help African Americans.
Black Floridians have made about a third of the state’s total “Stand Your Ground” claims in homicide cases, a rate nearly double the black percentage of Florida’s population. The majority of those claims have been successful, a success rate that exceeds that for Florida whites.[…]
Listen to this investigative reporter again and try to figure out what his statements have to do with anything:
Black Floridians have made about a third of the state’s total “Stand Your Ground” claims in homicide cases, a rate nearly double the black percentage of Florida’s population. The majority of those claims have been successful, a success rate that exceeds that for Florida whites.
What the Hell is this investigative reporter saying? How does it relate to the conditions in the killing of Trayvon Martin? Did the court reference one of the reporter mentioned cases in reaching its verdict? Is there a similar case where the killer chased down the victim before killing the victim and then calling that killing a “stand your ground killing”? Why didn’t the investigative reporter relate something to the problem rather than give some “nice to know tidbits”.
That investigative reporter mentioned Attorney General Eric Holder’s assertion of repealing “stand your ground” would help African Americans. And it could help
both all – white – black and Hispanic Americans to keep guns out of the hands of citizens walking the streets of Florida. Even trained policemen might be strained to only hit their target on city streets.
However Jeb Bush, yes from that family, signed “stand your ground “ into law. What law did Florida use to free Zimmerman from the responsibility of killing Trayvon Martin? Still searching.
